academy awards.

Sunday, February 29th, 2004

Why does Billy Crystal keep hosting these awards shows? He’s not funny.
Also, Rob should be pleased, 11 Oscars for Return of the King. A little bit ridiculous don’t you think?

le weekend.

i went to a thai restaurant on friday that was quite tasty, Lai Thai. Jason and Sheryl know the people who own the place, so we got complimentary spring rolls. I had the Spicy Lover’s Noodles, which were pretty good, and it’s about the same price as Chantanee. I couldn’t really say which one was better, but i’d definitely go back to Lai Thai. I think Chantanee might be spicier, though Ivy hardly ate any of her meal since she said it was too much for her.
Afterwards I headed to travis’s for a mardi gras-ish get together. that was fun, and i hung out there until around 4am when the last of us left.
Saturday I helped a cripple out… I mean I helped Sarah of the broken leg move her stuff from Irwin’s back to her place and put together a desk, since she’s not quite mobile enough to do it. After that a few people showed up and we played through the entire green side of the deck of Taboo.
After that i headed over and played Trivial pursuit with Ivy, Irwin Jason and Sheryl.
Today, i will do nothing!
All in all, a pretty good weekend, just relaxed and hung out with friends.

nope.

Well, turns out nobody dressed up in costume for the opening of “The Passion of the Christ.” Well, except for those priest guys.

new style…

Wednesday, February 25th, 2004

…but i cheated. i just grabbed a style from movablestyle.com that i liked.
i need to learn css so that i can design something on my own. of course if i actually learn css, then i’ll also have to learn how to design something that isn’t really ugly, which may or may not be possible.

it was an uneventful day, just worked, played some FF:CC, attempted to screw around with my site, failed, cheated, and now i’ll go read.

The downfall of civilization

After a year of gloating to mike that his favorite (and very crappy) game Fuzion Frenzy was never going to have a sequel, IGN goes and posts that Fuzion Frenzy 2 is (may be) coming.
This is the first I’ve ever heard of it, and until I hear it more, I won’t trust just one story. Maybe it was all a big misunderstanding.

If it does come out, it should just be titled Fuzion Frenzy 2: It’s Just for Girlz! and come in a pretty pink box with ribbons on it, since we all know that girls (and Mike and Hank) are the only ones that liked Fuzion Frenzy. Except for Duck & Jump, that was almost worth playing.

My new/old camera.

Tuesday, February 24th, 2004

The camera I bought is an Ansco Pioneer, made between 1947-1953. Not too bad, for $20.

i wonder if people will be lined up around the block, dressed up in costume like they were for Lord of the Rings, when The Passion of the Christ comes out in theaters….

sunday pt. 2

Monday, February 23rd, 2004

Besides the concert, we also had dim sum in the morning with joann and irwin.
We went to gasworks park for a little while, then drove over to fremont. Showed my mom the Troll, then walked around fremont, and checked out the Fremont Sunday Market which was pretty neat. I got a new camera! well, actually a really old camera. Some guy was selling a bunch of vintage stuff and I picked up the camera for $20. I’m curious to see if it works at all, and whether I can actually find film for it. If not, it’s still pretty neat.

Before the concert we headed to Buenos Aires Grill for the “All You Can Meat” Parillada. Tasty, but i think the dim sum in the morning limited our full meat intake. We got there at 5:00 right when they opened, so had the place to ourselves for a while. Buenos Aires Grill has a Tango dancing friday and saturday nights, and a band playing tango on sunday nights (we left before that) which would be pretty interesting to check out sometime.

In Portland we saw this table which is pretty cool. If only it wasn’t $1300 i’d like to buy it. my uncle might be able to build one though, which would be pretty cool. It’s really pretty simple, 8 pieces of wood for the sides, the 4 legs, and the 4 sliding pieces. If I 1) knew the first thing about woodworking, 2) had tools, and 3) had a place to do this, it would be cool to try to make it myself. However, i’ll leave it up to my uncle who built half the furniture in his house. If he does make it, maybe I’ll somehow bring one back with me from Mexico. I especially like how you can slide one of the lower leaves out and put it up top to make a larger table-top.

There’s a red house yonder…

Sunday night I went to the Experience Hendrix concert at the Paramount theater. Lots of good music, but as it was the first show on the tour, it could stand to get a little more organization. They were trying for a continuous music kind of thing, where each band played a couple songs, and then another band went on without needing to change the stage. Except they had trouble with smooth fast switches, especially Kenny Olson (Kid Rock’s lead guitarist) who played with a few of the bands.

Portland, not so much.

Went to Portland today with my mom, it’s even more of a small big city than seattle is. It’s not ugly, it’s actaully quite a nice looking city: lots of parks, some streets lined with bricks, stuff lake that. But there are only a couple places that are really interesting to see. There are two streets (21st and 23rd) that are something like Fremont or the U-District’s main street, and then there’s a nice area with an upscale mall and a nordstroms. Plus some nice looking houses, but only a few blocks of them, so there’s not a whole lot to see.
If i lived there, i’m sure i’d be pretty happy, but it’s definitely not worth the 2 1/2 to 3 hour drive from Seattle. Might as well go north, to Vancouver, which has way more stuff to do.

*Cleveland may or may not actually rock.
