Coachella!

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

I’m leaving tonight with the jim on our road trip down to Coachella.
Tonight we’re camping in Oregon, at the Honeyman National Park. Tomorrow we stay in San Francisco with brave Sir Robin, then Thursday we pass through LA on the way to Indio (just 15 miles from Mecca), where we’ll be camping at the official Coachella campgrounds, for 3 days of rocking. Then we’ll crash in LA for a night on Monday, head back to San Francisco for Tuesday night, and then a nice 12 hour drive to Seattle on Wed.
It should be fun!

In other news, FareCast is pretty neat. I needed to buy tickets to go to a wedding at the end of June, and a couple friends were on a flight that was cheap so i tried to buy tickets, but they had jumped up from under $200 to $250. I looked at FareCast for flights and it recommended waiting since prices were probably going to drop, and Lo and Behold, I just bought the same ticket for $170 including taxes and stuff. nice.

got any change?

Lollapalooza looks good.

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

if you live in Chicago or nearby (Trevor, i’m looking at you), lollapalooza looks pretty good this year:
Pearl Jam, Daft Punk, Muse, modest mouse, the roots, regina spektor, iggy & the stooges, m.i.a., blonde redhead, CSS, plus a bunch of other bands that aren’t really my favorites, but i know are popular.
i would totally go if i weren’t 2000 miles away.

Kurt is in Heaven now.

Kurt Vonnegut died last night. He was one of my favorite writers. That sucks.

you want a date?

Monday, April 9th, 2007

I went to see Grindhouse tonight, it was pretty sweet. We went to the late show, which got out around 1:30 or so, so I walked home kinda late. On the way home, i ran into an… interesting lady. First she asked me if i had any cash, cause she had been robbed, for $40, and she needed cash to make it home. I told her that I didn’t have anything, and she asked if I had an ATM card to get some money. So… yeah i said no to that one too. She said she needed some mone since she had gotten the $40 from her psychologist, cause she… wasn’t allowed to have her own? I didn’t quite understand that part. Said she lived on capitol hill, and I said that wasn’t too far, and then somehow that got to her asking me if I “wanted a date.” I imagine that i looked rather shocked, and then I politely declined, and she again asked if I had an ATM card, and I said no. “So, you don’t want a date? Come on, go on a date with me.” Again, I said no thanks, but I gave her a couple bucks that I did have, and then went on my merry way.

Interesting folks…

This is esentially the difference between being a weird nerd that everyone thinks is a little crazy, and having people think you’re normal.

(xkcd is great.)

holy crap EMI + Apple

Alternate title: EMiTunes

There are about a billion links on the tubal interwebs about this, but in short, EMI is now selling their entire (digital) catalog of music on iTunes with no DRM at all.
Each song costs $0.30 more than a DRM protected song ($1.29 vs. $0.99), but you can upgrade your current DRM’d songs to non-DRM for $0.30, and full albums now come DRM free, at the same price as before.

That’s wicked awesome, and almost makes me want to use itunes, except that i don’t like buying music digitally cause i have a strange attachment to owning the physical medium. But it’s a step in the right direction fo’ sho’. I hope MS follows suit with Zune.

Who is on EMI?
these peoples are the most famous:
