ice ice baby.

Friday, January 28th, 2005

check out these pictures of ice in Geneva. The ice formed from the spray from the lake freezing on cars, trees, fences, etc.
It’s pretty neat looking. (i almost said cool and thought that was a little cheesy)

A9 search

Friday, January 28th, 2005

holy crap.
robin wrote up a li’l bit about amazon’s A9 search which now has yellow-pages functionality. as he said “Whatever. Big deal.”
however, in 10 metro areas, they have photographed the city and you can look up a business and see the picture of that business, plus “walk down the street” looking at the businesses up and down that same street.

For example, i’d like to know where lava lounge is.
2226 2nd Ave, cool, here’s a map, and look, you can see what it looks like. then take a walk up the street, passing Shorty’s, Tula’s jazz club and restaurant, the Crocodile Cafe on the corner, then keep going a few blocks till you get to the moore theater.

Hey, lets go to Cap Hill, Broadway Grill is pretty tasty. A few doors down is the Red Light, and just past the BofA you’ve got Noah’s New York Bagels.

They don’t have that many streets photographed yet, but it’s a pretty good amount, and a lot of the more popular areas are done.
crazy stuff.

people are stupid.

so penny-arcade had a comic today saying that they’d worked out an exclusivity deal to make them the only video game related webcomic out there, prompted by EA getting the rights to make all NFL video games for the next 70 million years, followed by Take Two kinda getting the rights to MLB video games. EA is also attempting to buy every video game developer around, and is looking at ubisoft, even though ubisoft does not want to be owned by EA. See, the difference between EA and ubisoft is that ubisoft makes good games. EA I guess has some good games by accident, sometimes. when you have so many, some of them have to be good, a fuerza. (i just kinda felt like “a fuerza” fit there better than any phrase i knew in english. that happens every once in a while, a word in spanish just sounds more right than an english translation.)

apparently people actually believed this and wrote hate mail to gabe and tycho berating them for getting the exclusive rights to make video game comics from every video game publisher in the world.
sometimes i think the internet is pretty cool. other times i think it was the worst idea ever and all of those people shouldn’t be allowed to use it.

new chair.

Wednesday, January 26th, 2005

here are some exciting things that have happened in my life as of late:
my landlord installed new windows in my apartment. they are revolutionary. they keep heat inside the apartment, and form a magical seal to keep the cold OUT! it’s remarkable. also, they block sounds from outside.

i got a new office chair. well, an office chair period. i had been using this piece of crap dining room type chair that was way too low and didn’t let me actually use the top of my desk for typing or mousing. i had to put my keyboard on my lap, and my mouse on the box that came with my computer. pretty crappy. but now i have a fancy chair that rotates and is height adjustable, and has adjustable arms, and is tilty and is very nice.

these alone are really excitement enough for at least 2 months, so if you’re getting too excited you might want to stop, or at least take a breather.

you ready?

so the other thing is i have a roommate now, for a few months anyway. my friend jim needed a place to stay for a little while so we moved my desk and stuff out of the second bedroom.

and that’s about it…
i rule, i know.

Per robin’s request, pictures of mein chairen.

i’d just like to try it out, see how it works, and how well.

darwinia.

Monday, January 24th, 2005

friday evilavatar had a post about a neat game called Darwinia, from the people who made Uplink, which apparently everyone played except me. I downloaded the demo and tried it out, and thought it was really good. It’s a funky little RTS with a different interface than most others, and its pretty fun. Kinda feels like playing an RTS in the world of Tron.
Today, Penny Arcade posted about it, which resulted in the wanging of introversions server; it’s either down, or going very slowly. However, since i downloaded it over the weekend I’ve got it, and I put it on my site. I’m not going to post a link since that’ll just screw my own server over and my web host probably wouldn’t like that much.
So, if I know you (even remotely) and you want it, let me know and I can send you the link. It’s only 11 mb anyway.

not recommended.

i went to “sleep” at around 5:00am this morning, then woke up to meet some people at Brown Bag for breakfast at 8:00am. slept again from 10am to 1pm, and now i’m going to go climbing at 2:00pm, and then help a friend move in after that. and then i’m going to die.
at least i don’t have food poisoning.

quit your bitchin’.

Thursday, January 20th, 2005

I put 313 pictures up (or they are going up right now, since it takes for friggin’ ever to upload them and for gallery to do it’s resizing thumbnail magic.
so Mike can stop bitching about me not updating, when he had one update between November and January.
