idaho is bored.

Thursday, June 2nd, 2005

seriously, idaho must have nothing going on pretty much all the time.
They recently passed House Concurrent Resolution 29 commending Jared and Joshua Hess and the city of Preston for the production of the movie Napoleon Dynamite.
You should check it out, it has such jewels as:

WHEREAS, Uncle Rico’s football skills are a testament to Idaho athletics;

and

WHEREAS, Pedro’s efforts to bake a cake for Summer illustrate the positive connection between culinary skills to lifelong relationships;

and

WHEREAS, Tina the llama, the chickens with large talons, the 4-H milk cows, and the Honeymoon Stallion showcase Idaho’s animal husbandry;

Good stuff there. Be sure to make fun of congratulate Tyler for his home state’s legislative commitment to the arts.

watched this last night, it was good, except for the last 15 minutes at which point my stomach decided it was going to hurt really, really bad and make me leave and go to the restroom and miss the end of the movie.
It’s a good movie though, a martial arts movie in the style of crouching tiger and hero. Government and police on one side, undercover robin hood style group on the other, and of course a love story. I recomend it, except for the stomach hurting thing. That part sucks.

i ♥ huckabees. medusa’s ok too.

Monday, October 25th, 2004

i went to see i ♥ huckabee’s on Friday. it’s a really weird movie, but it was good and I liked it a lot. very surreal, which i tend to like in movies. It has some good, lily tomlin, dustin hoffman, marky mark wahlberhg, jason schwartzman, naomi watts, and jude law. they all do good jobs, except that jude law’s American accent is not the greatest. half the time it’s good, half the time he’s about to break into his regular English accent.

saturday i went to Club Medusa, one of the clubs that’s trying to create a fancy clubbing Scene in Seattle. With a few people from work, we went to see Seb Fontaine a DJ that one of the guys wanted to see. i guess he’s good, but i don’t know much about DJ’s and i’d never heard of him. Medusa is alright, though i think i’d rather to a different club next time. there were a lot of old guys looking for skanky girls, some skanky girls looking for a sugar daddy, some yuppie guys pretending to be ravers, but it was still fun. really packed though, so we ended up in a corner near the bar. there were some strange people around us, though happily some of them paired up and left us alone. There was one guy who totally reminded me of gary busey, he was being all weird and doing strange things like pretending to grab random people’s noses (the lame thumb between the fingers trick), and was trying to get people to dance.
Anyway, it was fun, but if i’m paying that much, i’d rather go to Element.

got my oil changed, watched the michigan game, spent a buttload of money on car insurance pants of which i only want to return 1 pair, though i should return more. I need to buy more shirts, but pants are much easier to buy and i like pants more. I should just do what irwin does and buy the same shirt in 3 different colors. of course, i’d have to find a shirt i like first…

shaun of the awesome.

Wednesday, October 6th, 2004

also last night i watched shaun of the dead, which is awesome. little bit romantic comedy, little bit zombie movie, really funny, not really scary, occasionally a bit gory. It’s really one of the better movies i’ve seen in a while. I thought it was better than napoleon dynamite which i watched on sunday.
napoleon is pretty good too, though really really stupid.

house of the dead.

Tuesday, September 7th, 2004

I watched House of the Dead saturday night. It is an awesome terrible horrible movie. really bad acting, bad dialog, bad directing, bad editing, bad music, bad scene transitions… pretty much bad everything. It’s supposedly based on the arcade game House of the Dead, even though it has really nothign at all to do with it. It takes place on the San Juan islands (so they say), with a bunch of kids going to a rave, leaving from Seattle.
Many scenes have shots from the arcade game as the transition, a lot of times in places that don’t make sense, they re-use scenes 3 or 4 times, the zombies just look like people in zombie outfits, random things that don’t make sense happen. it’s just quality.

day after tomorrow. garbage. susannah! full spectrum.

Saturday, May 29th, 2004

I watched the day after tomorrow with the u-m folks, it was pretty damn entertaining, a good summer disaster type movie. If you’re in the mood for a campy disaster movie, it’s pretty good. basically, the hippy tree huggers were right: screwing with the environment caused the coming of a second ice age. and that’s the plot. tornados, tidal waves, blizzards, people trying not to die, cool scenes of LA, New York, Japan, England getting fucked up thanks to global warming. There were some pretty obvious looking cgi scenes, but overall i thought the effects were pretty good. I enjoyed it more than Troy, though that’s not saying much..

Garbage should have a new album out relatively soon. Their website has the album name and track list:

Hands on a Hard Body
SONGS:
Be my Bad Boyfriend
Run
Why don’t you come over
Guilty
It’s all over but the Crying.
Sex is not the Enemy
Hanging with the Bitches
Why don’t you love Me.
Calling All Girls
HoneyBee
Bleed Like Me
Right Between the Eyes
Space Can come Through Anyone
Nobody Can Win

Looking forward to that, no idea when it’s supposed to be out.

The Dark Tower VI: Song of Susannah will be out in a week and a half! I need to finish up the books i’m reading at the moment (dune messiah, children of dune, starship troopers), or i’m just gonna have to put them aside for a few days while I burn through book VI in the best series ever written. ever.
Oh, the prologue is up for all to read, here.

Also, Full Spectrum Warrior is going to be shipping next Tuesday. I preordered that, free overnight shipping, so i should have it on Wednesday. Not sure how i’m going to have time for everything, especially since I’m going to LA next weekend for my Pete’s graduation. Too many good things!

ok, sleep time. need to wake up early. why am i waking up earlier on the weekend than i do during the week? that’s just wrong…

“No,” Roland said, “a Beamquake. One of the Beams holding up the Tower — which holds up everything — just let go. Just snapped.”

Troy in 15 minutes.

Thursday, May 20th, 2004

sorry, i was way off in my movie recap of troy.
This is much better, and pretty funny.

quentin is cool.

Tuesday, April 20th, 2004

it would be pretty cool to run into quentin tarrantino and hang out with him at a mall. I like that he drives the Pussy Wagon, that’s great.

Quentin Tarrantino seems like a crazy but also pretty cool guy, though he might get on my nerves after a while because he’s insanely hyperactive. I read an interview with him and Uma Thurman (separate interviews, same story) in Rolling Stone, they both seem pretty interesting, and have a strange relationship of her being his muse and him being obsessed with her.

Anyway, Kill Bill Vol. 2 is pretty good. Just watch out for eye damage, it’s kinda gross. If you’re squeamish, close your eyes once you see it happen, until you hear the crowd make “eww, gross” type sounds. I’ll tell you what happened afterwards. Also, David Carradine is cool.

eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.

Monday, March 29th, 2004

that’s another movie off my list.
I just got back from watching eternal sunshine, I enjoyed it. Some people have said that Jim Carrey doesn’t quite pull it off, that he tries so hard not to be his usual off the handle self that he doesn’t fit the role, but I thought he did a good job. I also really liked Kate Winslett in her part.

i’m glad we don’t have the ability to do the shit they do in the movie, erasing your memory and the like. I’d hate to lose the good memories i have because of some bad ones. good memories are good because they can be contrasted with the bad memories. of course the opposite is true as well, so you could argue that not having good memories makes the bad ones seem better. but i’ll gladly take a few bad memories if it means I can have at least as many good. so if the technology to erase someone should ever come about (whithout the help of the mafia), and i happen to think it’s a good idea, remind me never to do it, thanks.

movies that need watching.

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2004

I need to watch Secret Window, Dawn of the Dead, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
anyone (that lives in seattle) interested?
