system of a down.
seeing as i ripped on coldplay last time, i might as well say something bad about system of a down too, while i’m at it.
first off, the singer’s voice is rather odd. their music is very discordant, and their lyrics are really bad. they have a couple new songs on the radio right now which are less annoying than their previous songs, but they still have pretty awful lyrics.
from “radio and video”

the top stanza repeats 5 times, the bottom stanza repeats 3.
the lyrics don’t mean anything, and they can’t even be bothered to write enough lyrics to fit the entire song.
the thing that annoys me most about system of a down is that they act like they’re the next rage against the machine, singing powerful songs against the man and the establishment (supopsedly radio and video is anti-hollywood) but their lyrics are borderline retarded.
in the song “Aerials” there’s this beauty:
Always want to go,
But you never want to stay
if you want to go then you’re not staying. is there really a problem?
Holy crap, i just looked up the lyrics of “Chic ‘n’ Stu”. It means nothing whatsoever. But i bet they say it means Americans buy lots of food and we’re fat.
they’re just a bunch of pompous idiots, but at least they wrote a couple songs that i don’t immediately switch away from the instant i hear them. and they got close to not sounding completely insane with B.Y.O.B. an anti-Bush song.
i think i’d usually rather listen to coldplay than system of a down. although not always, sometimes the moposity level gets too high and i’d rather listen to horribly cheesy crappy music.

I honestly very rarely listen to the lyrics of songs. Even if I do pay attention, I hardly ever get the meaning out of them, so I don’t really care that much if bands have stupid lyrics.
With all this complaining you’re doing about bad lyrics, maybe you should post some examples of what you would consider “good” songs/lyrics. (I expect you to post plenty of Kelly Clarkston)

first off, you will never read this, so it’s pretty pointless of me to reply, but just in case…
this website is primarily for my friends. it is not a public music website, i just felt like giving my opinion on a popular band that i don’t like to people whose opinion i care about. you are not one of those people, but still i respect your opinion in liking SoaD even though i think they aren’t very good. i think i can deal with that, cause you liking a band doesn’t matter to me. clearly you can’t deal with it.
if i felt like voicing my opinion to more people i would go to a shitty forum and post something along the lines of “omg teh sysem of a down sux1!!”
carl, no matter what the band is, there will always be people that like them and people that don’t like them. unfortunately you fell into the group that likes a bad band. sorry, you lose.
you probably like the Mars Volta. they are horrible.

why did google, or whoever, decide to suddenly promote my site as the definitive “SOAD sucks” site?
SoaD is a good band, I don’t know about brilliant, but they definitely aren’t just another rock band. they have some catchy songs that border on good musicanship, but I don’t think they are among the top ranking bands are far as composing music or technical ability. I do like a few of their songs, as I said in this or the next post, and yeah, some of the others annoy me, but honestly i’ve probably only heard 5 or 6 of their songs. mostly what I think about them is they have silly lyrics that they think are brilliant. but they’re doing a good job of being the next RATM, so i give them props for that.

check your grammar buddy. it’s you’re. unless you mean to say “my a real idiot.” my guess is no.
just cause i don’t like that they want to be the next rage doesn’t mean they’re not good at it. rage got annoying too, they were kind of a one trick pony. “fuck the man” gets a little old after 4 albums.

and i’m standing by the fact that their lyrics are awful.
but i am not so close minded as to hate 100% of a band’s music or like 100% of a band’s music. so yes, there are a couple songs that i like and that i listen to when they play on the radio. but it’s only because they’re catchy and get stuck in my head. i’ll get tired of them soon enough like I do with most bands of the minute. They’re not gonna have the same longevity as other bands. And if they do, well congratulations to them.
and “moposity” is a made up word meaning they are very mopey. (by the way, mopey means sad and gloomy.) You could use a little sense of humor there.
I don’t think you’re all that smart, though you only misspelled a few words, which is good, I’m real proud of ya.

mercy though… yeah, can’t say the same for you.
I used to like RATM, and really i still do, but i stopped buying their albums cause i just got tired of the same old thing. But despite that, I think RATM did a lot of good by being so active in promoting their beliefs.
Don’t blame me for not being interested in what they have to say.
And it’s essentially the same thing with SOAD, but upped by the fact that their lyrics are less coherent, at least in my opinion.
A small aside: one of my favorite quotes from Tom Morello regarding audioslave is something along the lines of him having to readjust his guitar playing because he had never played guitar with a singer who actually… sang. you know, used melody, tone, etc.

man, i haven’t heard psyche since middle school. but anyway, i don’t have a problem with you thinking System kicks ass. You have a problem with me not thinking the same thing, and commenting on it.
I don’t like coldplay any more than i like system, in fact I’d say I like coldplay less. I’m more likely to switch off a coldplay song on the radio than a SOAD song.
